About Gil Samson

Gil Samson Award

Gil Samson served as General Manager and Executive Director of the former Construction Safety Association of Ontario (CSAO) for many years. His dedication to accident prevention has encouraged others who have followed suit.

The Award

Inspired by Mr. Samson’s contribution to accident prevention, a donor established a fund to honour Gil Samson and to recognize similar contributions towards accident prevention made by a Labour-Management Health and Safety Committee.

The award is in the form of a suitable plaque or citation to each member of the winning committee. The award is presented each year at IHSA’s Annual General Meeting.

Criteria

The Gil Samson Award is presented annually to a trade, sector, or regional Labour-Management Health and Safety Committee within IHSA’s Labour-Management Network. The Committee must have contributed to the advancement of occupational health and safety by virtue of a program, publication, or other accomplishment, as well as maintaining consideration for others’ opinions, perspectives, and uniqueness in a way that supports the creation of an all-inclusive environment.

Judging

The judging committee, comprised of members of IHSA’s Provincial Labour-Management Health and Safety Committee, reviews the nominations and selects a recipient.
