Program Description

This IHSA course is hands-on

Workers who are required to trim or remove trees in proximity to energized electrical apparatuses will learn safe and proficient methods for performing this type of work. The hands-on tree removal portion involves tree climbing and rigging components. The program includes both classroom and field work. These skills are transferable to any sector involved in line clearing.

Personnel who perform this type of work.



Completion of Chainsaw Operation and Maintenance is required for this course.


Personal Protective Equipment / What to Bring

Participants are required to bring their own CSA-approved head, eye/face shield, and foot protection, chainsaw/leather work gloves, ear protection, leg protection/chaps, suitable work clothing, all climbing equipment and hand tools (belt and spurs), approved fall arrest system (harness and shock absorbing lanyard), and approved fall restrict system for climbing wood poles. The participant will not be permitted to participate in the course if they do not bring the noted personal protective equipment and tools.


Learning Evaluation

Evaluation is based on hands-on demonstration of tree pruning and/or tree removal techniques, tree rigging techniques, and proper chainsaw operation.


Did You Know?

A wallet-sized record of training card will be issued to each participant upon completion of the course.


Participant Course Evaluation

At the end of the training, participants will have the opportunity to evaluate and provide comments about the training they received.



Delivery of this program at your facility will require a suitable space to complete the practical portion of the program as well as the required equipment. Please check with your IHSA Consultant/Trainer for specific requirements.
