Structure, Tower Safe Climbing, Rescue & Working Techniques

Program Description

This program familiarizes personnel with the legislative requirements for working aloft. It is beneficial for those who climb water towers, communications towers, and transmission hydro towers. It is also useful for substation construction and maintenance crews. Water tower rescue is covered as well.

Program Content

• Interpretation of relevant regulations including the OHSA and Canada Labour Code Part II
• Review of Telecommunications Utility Safety Rules and/or Electrical Utility Safety Rules
• Personal protective equipment
• Rigging, hoisting, and lowering
• Electrical hazards
• Establishing safe work zones for substation work aloft and on the ground
• Rescue techniques from high- and low-profile steel structures

There are no prerequisites for this course.

Who Should Attend?

Personnel required to climb structures and towers.

Personal Protective Equipment

For courses held at an IHSA training facility, participants are required to bring their own CSA-approved foot protection and clothing suitable for outside work (i.e., long sleeves). IHSA will provide CSA-approved head and eye protection, gloves, and harness/climbing gear.

For courses held at a client's facility, participants are required to bring their own CSA-approved head, foot, and eye protection, gloves, harness/climbing gear, and clothing suitable for outside work (i.e., long sleeves).
