Program Description

This IHSA course is hands-on

This course introduces or reinforces the concepts of selection, maintenance, testing, and use of rubber protective equipment at various voltage levels. Standard safe operating procedures are highlighted using IHSA's High Voltage Rubber Techniques up to 36 kV Safe Practice Guide.

 

Program Content

  • Review of the design, manufacturing, and testing elements of rubber gloves and associated equipment
  • Hydraulic equipment (stability; daily and weekly checks)
  • Job planning/tailboard talks
  • Rigging procedures
  • Detailed study of IHSA's High Voltage Rubber Techniques up to 36 kV Safe Practice Guide
  • Utility Work Protection Code
  • Field practice—rubber glove techniques

Personnel who perform this type of work (including supervisors).

 

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for this course.

 

Personal Protective Equipment / What to bring

Participants are required to bring their own CSA-approved head, eye, and foot protection, traffic vest, suitable clothing for outside work (AR/FR rated for work in an electrical environment), rubber gloves and covers, leather work gloves, personal hand tools, full-body harness, and lanyard. Note: The outside live line work is on 28kV Class #4. Rubber gloves will be required. If your employer does not have Class 4 gloves, gloves will be supplied by IHSA. The participant will not be permitted to participate in the course if they do not bring the noted personal protective equipment and tools.

 

Learning Evaluation

The participant must score 70% on the final knowledge evaluation for successful completion of the course.

 

Participant Course Evaluation

At the end of the training, participants will have the opportunity to evaluate and provide comments about the training they received.

 

NOTE

Delivery of this program at your facility will require a suitable space to complete the practical portion of the program as well as the required equipment. Please check with your IHSA Consultant/Trainer for specific requirements.
