Program Description

This is an awareness IHSA course

This classroom based program provides hazard awareness to support workers who are involved in line clearing operations and related work that takes place in proximity to energized electrical equipment under the direct supervision of a journeyperson.

 

Program Content

  • Comprehensive review of relevant legislation and the Electrical Utility Safety Rule Book
  • IHSA's Line Clearing Operations Safe Practice Guide (SPG8)
  • Safe limits of approach
  • Basic electrical theory
  • Basic hydraulics + holding valve checks - overview and practical demonstration*
  • Equipment pre-trip inspection
  • Personal protective equipment
  • Job planning/tailboard talks
  • Temporary work zones
  • Utility Work Protection Code
  • Tree climbing techniques

*The practical demonstration will be dependent on the weather and the availability of a bucket truck.

This awareness program provides a basic overview of a wide range of topics. This overview does not comprise a complete or practical review of hydraulics, temporary work zones, Tree Climbing or certification under the Utility Work Protection Code. Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for this course.

 

Personal Protective Equipment / What to Bring

Participants are required to bring their own CSA-approved head and foot protection in case the practical demonstration is able to be performed.

 

Learning Evaluation

Participants will complete pre- and post-tests as well as hands-on bucket truck inspection and holding valve checks (if applicable).

 

Participant Course Evaluation

At the end of the training, participants will have the opportunity to evaluate and provide comments about the training they received.

 

NOTE

Delivery of this program at your facility will require a suitable space to complete the practical portion of the program as well as the required equipment. Please check with your IHSA Consultant/Trainer for specific requirements.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

Registration fees for IHSA’s in-class training courses will be increasing. If you are registering for a course scheduled to take place prior to March 31, 2024, the price is unchanged. If you are registering for a course scheduled for April 1, 2024 or later, the price will be higher. Please see the tables below for more information.
