Program Description

Incident investigations are essential to any successful health and safety program, as they provide the greatest opportunity for improvement when used as a prevention tool. Yet all too often, investigations are not prioritized. Untrained employees are ineffective investigators and uninformed workers are often unwilling to participate in the investigation process.

The goal of this full day training program is to provide a framework and resources to build an effective workplace incident investigation program and prepare individuals for competency on an investigation team.

Program Content

In this workshop-style program, a case study is used to present a workplace-incident investigation process in a large group facilitation. The choice of a second case study provides small groups with practical application.

The investigation process presented is based on recognized standards.

Both provincial and federal legislation is presented in table format as a quick reference. Participants will receive several examples of procedures, processes, checklists, forms, and tips for use back at their own workplace.

Who Should Attend?

Employees with prior health and safety training from federally and provincially regulated firms, Policy Committee members, Joint Health and Safety Committee members, Health and Safety Representatives, Supervisors, Managers, COR™ Internal Auditors, and anyone else interested in participating on a workplace incident investigation team.

Prerequisites

It is recommended that participants have prior experience with and knowledge of occupational health and safety topics such as recognizing and assessing hazards, recommending controls, and evaluating controls (RACE).

Learning Evaluation

Evaluation is based on a written knowledge questionnaire at the completion of the course.
