Program Description

This is an IHSA awareness course

This program provides basic health and safety awareness training for construction workers in Ontario. Participants will learn to identify common construction health and safety hazards and protect themselves from these hazards by following safe work and operating procedures.


Program Content

  • Introduction to the construction environment
  • Legislation
  • Hazard recognition
  • Personal protective equipment
  • Back care and manual material handling
  • Housekeeping
  • Access equipment
  • Electrical safety

A performance evaluation will be administered at the end of the course to ensure that key concepts have been understood. A record of completion will be issued to successful participants.


Who Should Attend?

This program is only available to those who must satisfy the requirements set out in the agreement for construction sector labour mobility between Ontario and Quebec. Otherwise participants should refer to IHSA’s Entry-Level Construction course for general health and safety awareness training.



There are no prerequisites for this course.


Personal Protective Equipment / What to Bring

Participants must wear appropriate clothing.


Learning Evaluation

Participants must take part in a series of worksheet exercises and successfully complete a written multiple-choice Knowledge Evaluation with a grade of 75% in order to receive a Certificate of Completion from IHSA.


Participant Course Evaluation

At the end of the training, participants will have the opportunity to evaluate and provide comments about the training they received.
