Program Description
All workers, including construction tradespeople, who perform Type 3 asbestos work as defined in Regulation 278/05 under the Occupational Health and Safety Act must successfully complete the in-school training component of the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) approved Asbestos Abatement Worker (AAW) training program. The participant will not be permitted to participate in the course if they do not bring the noted personal protective equipment and tools.
Program Content
This IHSA course covers the mandatory in-school component of the program. Upon completion of the course, workers will be able to write the MLITSD Asbestos Abatement Worker test administered by a MLITSD recognized test administrator.
Who Should Attend?
Any workers, including construction tradespeople, who perform Type 3 asbestos work as defined in Regulation 278/05 under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Prerequisites
There are no pre-requisites for this program.
Personal Protective Equipment / What to Bring
We ask that you bring your own personal protective equipment (PPE) and that it is maintained and in good working order as per the manufacturer’s specifications and regulatory requirements. If you do not have the necessary PPE, you will not be able to complete the program and will be asked to reschedule when you have the proper clothing and equipment.
Participants must wear appropriate clothing, as well as CSA-certified head, foot, and eye protection, NIOSH-approved full facepiece respirator with P-100 cartridges, and disposable coveralls.
Participants must also bring valid photo ID.
Learning Evaluation
At the end of the program, a performance evaluation (test) shall be administered to determine the comprehension and information retention level of the participant. The trainee must acquire a minimum score of 70%. Successful completion of the in-school component of the AAW Program will be acknowledged by a certificate/wallet card.
Participant Course Evaluation
At the end of the training, participants will have the opportunity to evaluate and provide comments about the training they received.
Requirements to Facilitate This Course at Your Facility

A training venue suitable to be used as a classroom and a 20' X 20' space to conduct the practical.

Negative air unit with matching duct and clamp, 1 HEPA vacuum, and 1 Manometer. (If required, IHSA may be able to provide the required equipment at an additional program cost of $750.00 plus HST. Check with your consultant to confirm availability)

Each participant to be supplied 1 Tyvek suit and 1 full facepiece respirator with P-100 cartridges.
