Behind the scenes at IHSA’s video shoots
A look at the filming sessions for our latest video safety talks and Keep your promise campaign.
Among the most important daily duties of workplace supervisors is to alert workers to specific health and safety hazards at their jobsites—and reinforce best practices for reducing the risks that those hazards pose.
IHSA’s free safety talks make that job easier. They help supervisors deliver clear, concise information about more than 150 topics, including occupational health hazards, ergonomics, vehicle use, and workplace mental health. In 2023, our printable safety talks were downloaded more than 120,000 times, while our video safety talks were viewed by thousands more on YouTube.
Recently, our videographers and health and safety experts filmed more than 30 new safety talk videos at multiple sites in southern Ontario. They were hosted by Kiewit Construction at Toronto’s Union Station and welcomed at a Mattamy Homes subdivision being built in Caledon—and another residential site in King City, where Condrain was beginning to install vital infrastructure. They also filmed at an EllisDon condo tower development in Mississauga and made extensive use of the LiUNA Local 183 Training Centre in Vaughan.
In addition to safety talk videos—on topics ranging from mobile device distractions to selecting the right ladder to creating a workplace culture of care—the team worked with IHSA’s Stakeholder and Public Relations department on a new Keep your promise campaign. This series includes a number of videos produced with Canadian charity Threads of Life and featuring family members of workers who were injured or who died due to workplace incidents. Using the message “see something, say something,” the videos aim to empower workers to speak up when they see unsafe tasks or situations at the workplace. They promote open communication and quick reporting to help prevent injuries and incidents before they occur.
