W459 - Health & Safety Advisory: Preventing Signaller Struck-by Injury from Skid Steers on Demolition Sites

Skid steers are a highly maneuverable and versatile piece of equipment used on many demolition projects. During demolitions, skid steer operators not only need to be fully aware of the hazards they are exposed to, they also need to pay careful attention to the hazards they may pose to nearby signallers, workers, and pedestrians.

Other hazards associated with skid steer operation include:

  • Being struck by loader arms, attachments, or falling materials
  • Falls from working around leading edges
  • Rollovers from instability and overloading
  • Slips and trips
  • Over-exposure to fumes, noise, and vibration
